I don't have any pictures today, but it has just been too long since I have posted something. So, I just thought I would provide an update with my life over here. Over the weekend...
I spent the weekend in my favorite city on the face of the earth: the place I currently call home.
I met up with my professor on Saturday morning at 8am to have breakfast and have him show me the market he goes to every weekend. I sat in bed at 7:25am debating whether to call him and tell him I wasn't feeling well, because I went to bed the night before at 3:30am, but I knew I would regret it, and BOY I sure would have!
First of all, to get up that early and explore the city on my own was something new and I absolutely loved it. Only the locals were out that early-the housewives out on their daily stroll to buy fresh bread for the day. It gave the city a whole different feel and atmosphere. After getting lost twice, I finally made it to meet with my Foods and Culture professor. It was so much fun and so generous of him to show me around the market where I will now be going to buy my produce and bread every weekend. I got to use my Italian everywhere I went and my professor showed me all of these interesting restaurants and hole in the wall gems of the city. After he showed me around the marketplace, we had cappuccinos and croissants. I've never had such an amazing experience with a professor nor had a professor take such care in a one-on-one relationship my entire career in college.
All new things to come while in Italy I'm sure. I had just better get used to it. I love it here.
Saturday night, I went to an exclusive Italian club on top of the Piazza del Michelangelo that my two friends and I tried to get into the night before, but were denied merely because we were Americans. So, naturally, as we dressed as the Italians do, wore scarves, and only spoke to the bouncers in Italian...we were granted entry within a few seconds. It's not always who you know; sometimes, it really is WHAT you know.
This night was amazing!!! Nobody in there was American besides the three of us. I LOVED IT. Nobody spoke English, except for yelling 'California' over and over again.
P.S. Italians love California and they think that if you are from there, you are pretty much famous. I found that out in about 5 minutes, which was amusing. At one time, everyone around us started chanting "CALIFORNIA! CALIFORNIA!" It was hilarious and ahh so many good memories.
Monday was my 1 month anniversary with this city. I cannot believe it has already been a month...It's going by too fast.
Dearest time,
Please slow down. Just a wee bit.
