Verona, Italia.
Saturday, September 8, 2012. Day begins: 3:30am. Day ended: it didn't. Just kidding. It did, but it ended very late and we were absolutely exhausted.
It was so beautiful! Verona, Italy is one of my favorite cities-Florence is still and will forever be number one. We boarded the train at 4:35am to Bologna and made it to Verona (after we missed our train to Verona because the Bologna train got to the station 15 minutes late) at 8:30am. Oh, Italy and their timely, reliable schedules. That is pure sarcasm.
But we made it to Verona, and met up with our friends around 9:30am so it worked out perfectly. It was so nice to have no schedule, do everything on our own and just see the city within our own time. We did have quite a big group of girls and I was a little bit nervous with how big our group was, but we had an incredible time!
We saw the arena where Romeo and Juliet was FIRST performed. It was incredible! Amy, I took so many pictures of the theatre just for you! Including the first Disney store, I have seen in Italy. I HAD to sister =)
We waltzed around Verona into la casa di Giulietta and if anyone has ever seen letters to Juliet (movie with Amanda Seyfried) it is incredible and so much more than I had imagined. We saw the statue of Juliet and her balcony, although it was crowded like crazy, we probably stayed in the little piazza for over an hour, taking pictures and looking at everything that was there-embracing the moment, you know?
They have a beautiful archway that is covered by a gate-like structure with tons of locks that couples make together. They come lock their love and seal it together in the house of Juliet, and then years later, you are supposed to come back together to unlock it together. How sappy, but romantic at the same time. I seriously felt like such a girl and like such a hopeless romantic while I was in this city, and since that is normally not my normal nature at all, it was kind of fun to be all girly and have this romantic view of Verona. I knew I wanted to write Juliet a letter as well, so I began to sit down and write a letter to Juliet, because they do reply within a few months, and my friends did too! We put it into the mailbox of Juliet, and I will await my reply back from Juliet herself.
It was such a beautiful city and I would LOVE to go back. Someday, I want to travel all of these places with my family because I am learning so much and how to wander about the cities each time that I go. I know my parents would absolutely love Verona; hopefully they can make it out to that city when they come to Europe for their anniversary!
(I also got them the BEST souvenir from la casa di Giulietta, I cannot WAIT until I see their lovely faces in person and can give it to them!)
P.S. In case you are wondering why I am boob-scooping the statue of Juliet-legend has it that if you do this, you will have good luck and Juliet will bring you love and good fortune in your future. Words of wisdom for the day. Betcha didn't know that, huh?
